Job Description

To provide custodial and housekeeping to four of the twenty-four residence hall buildings and the Foundation Apts. To assist staff and students by providing resources to clean, move, rearrange or otherwise accommodate requests that will assist in functioning of the physical area they occupy. To provide or seek assistance in providing a safe and secure environment. To make minor repairs and report to supervisor major repairs, vandalism or damage.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of:

  • Different types of flooring/covering sufficient to determine proper methods of maintenance and appropriate cleaning methods, materials, agents and equipment.

  • Chemical cleaning agents such as ammonia, bleaches, souring agents and soaps sufficient to appropriately select the agent(s), handle and apply, and dispose of safely.

  • Methods, tools, and equipment used in maintenance sufficient to use effectively and operate safely to make minor repairs.

 

Ability to:

  • Physical health and endurance sufficient to perform work functions.

  • Follow simple oral and written instructions.

  • Keep simple records.

  • Perform assigned tasks with limited work direction.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of:

  • Janitorial/custodial techniques, materials, equipment, and a basic knowledge of physical plant hardware use and operation. The position requires the ability to make minor repairs, adjustments, provide preventive and routine maintenance on hardware, cleaning equipment, furniture, and room accessories.

 

Ability to:

  • Get along with co-workers and supervisors, to treat co-workers, supervisors, students, and customers with respect and courtesy and to refrain from abusive or insubordinate behavior.

  • Move/remove heavy equipment up to 40 pounds.

  • Ascend/descend ladders and stairs to perform different tasks.

  • Appear for work and to complete tasks within established timelines.

Academic Year: Tuesday – Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; Saturday 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
